We interviewed a World War II Veteran for a project in US History at Poway High School.
His name is Orrel Glenn Cecil and he was on the USS Juneau when it was sunk by the Japanese.
Out of the 700+ men on board, only 14 survived, and Mr. Cecil is one of the 14, as well as the last out of the 14 alive today.
These veterans are living history and unfortunately won't be around in the next decade or two, and it's important to document as much as we can for future generations.
We hope you enjoy.
RIP Mr Cecil and God Bless you. Thanks for posting this.

My great-Uncle Roy Lanier served and was lost on the USS Juneau. This was really interesting to hear from one of the survivors.

I am an Iowa native (home State of the Sullivan brothers) and in 1967 I served seven months aboard USS The Sullivans DD 537 (just prior to my release from active duty) This was the first destroyer named after the five Sullivan brothers who were lost in the sinking of the USS Juneau CL52, on 11/131942. It's great to hear comments from a WWII and Juneau survivor. The USS The Sullivans DD 537 is now a museum ship located in the Naval & Military Park in Buffalo, N.Y.
