Japanese are very found of assigning meaning to numbers.
In this case.
11=eleven=is one (ichi) and one (ichi).
The first sound/syllable of "ichi" is "i". Take two "i" and you get "ii". いい in Japanese hiragana.
This also means GOOD!

YOUKA or 八日 in Japanese is 8 (八) + day (日). However the first kanji, the kanji for 8 is pronounce "hachi". The first syllable is "ha". Ha is also the word for tooth (歯).
So ii ha=good teeth!
Get it!

  • Good teeth is a very American thing! Britain used to not care either.

Also, American dentists I think are more likely to say you have a problem and need braces, whereas European dentists will tell you it's not that severe and that braces are optional.

  • I met a girl in Japan who shared the same b-day as me, and she said we were born on 「肉の日」(Meat Day) , because of the way you can pronounce the numbers(にく/二九/2月9日)

  • Hey Brandon! :D Unfortunately, I have to agree with those people. Not everyone, but many Japanese people really don't care about the way their teeth look! Even some famous artists! REALLY! Braces are really expensive here in Japan! I can tell by myself! Even if it was cheap, I don't think many people would get it here :P

  • 10-3, 十三 aka 父さん

I thought it would make a bit of sense except that 十 is read とお not とう but heh tell me what you think lol.

  • Nice!!!
