Arcade controls for your arcade games on your iPad!

Live Unboxing! :-)

First run via an un-jailbroken iPad:

The iCade is finally leaving the ThinkGeek store and is being resold at various online stores as well as brick and mortars like GameStop. Hopefully 8/16bit console emulators will take note and add iCade support soon. I'm looking at you Robert Broglia... :-)

This is the v1.7.0 iMAME4all build by David Valdeita (Seleuco). It is the first non-beta version of iMAME4all with iON's iCade support. 1.7.1 was released just hours after this video was uploaded so it's likely a newer version exists as you read this.

Please check the project page at http://code.google.com/p/imame4all for more information about the iOS MAME variation iMAMEall in general.

Games demo'd in this video in order of appearance: Pac-Man, 1942, Donkey Kong Jr, Gun.Smoke, Gyruss, Lady Bug, Millipede, Mappy, Mr. Do!, Ms Pac-Man, Q*Bert, Satan's Hollow, Time Pilot, Zaxxon, Aero Fighters 2, Asteroids, Bad Dudes, Bezerk, Captain Commando, Defender, Gauntlet, Ghost'n Goblins, Joust, Karate Champ, MegaMan the Power Battle, Metal Slug 2, Street Fighter 2, Wizard of Wor, Strider (kind of).

...yes, you have to jailbreak your iPad to install iMAME4all. As of this writing, I believe the Atari's Greatest Hits app is the only iCade compatible game at the Apple AppStore.

  • SNES Street Fighter II was much better than arcade.

  • Mr Do was so addictive. Xevious was my fav.

  • Wow that front on your command line text reminds me of Apple II era.

  • I want one!! "July 11th." This version of MAME was released in the year '01 or '02. Still, it's verrry cool!

  • @totophi Hmmm. I'm not suggesting Tekken 6 or anything, just that a Windows machine would be a bit more configurable. Plus there are some newer roms that might not be so processor intensive. I still play Robotron and Joust today so I'm not dissing the classics.

  • Mr do!

  • @nickbaldeagle01

Hey, genius. Considering the rule of thumb that the host machine should be around 10x the power of the emulated machine, it's not likely that many of those newer ROMs would run at any decent speed on any tablet. SO, either put up with these classic games that still command respect, or write your own optimized ports.

Or buy a brain tomorrow instead of an iCade.

  • How to you start a two-player game? Say, in Gyruss or Galaga?

  • Aha. I have an idea. Maybe a Windows tablet running Windows 7 64 bit will run the latest MAME and would possibly be compatible with an i-Cade. If not, then it would be compatible with an XBox 360 joypad. Hmmm...

  • @happytodd Do you mean you need the roms from mame v.37b5?
