It must suck to be a minor footnote instead of being a part of the main story.

At Neil Aspinall's funeral, George Martin apologized to Pete Best. He said he never wanted Pete out of the band he just didn't want him playing on "Love Me Do".
He didn't want Ringo playing either.

The thing that everyone seams to overlook is that the most common reason someone gets kicked out of a band usually has nothing to do with their musical ability. It's just a question of who do you want in your band. You want someone you like. Paul didn't get Denny Laine because he was the world's greatest guitarist and Linda wasn't the world's greatest singer. He just wanted to play with people he liked, and the Beatles liked Ringo better, and wanted him in the band. It's pretty straight forward.

@DixonCannon All in all, a wonderful historic story of the birth of the Beatles. Cheers to Pete for living a successful family life and surviving in the face of worldwide castigation. A lesser man would have caved in to alcohol, drugs, or suicide. Pete Best is a survivor, a living legend, and a hero.

@DixonCannon ...But, back in Liverpool, prior to '62, it was the Pete Best beat that had brought the Beatle sound to the attention of the fans and eventually Brian Epstein and George Martin. At the change over of the line up, fans in Liverpool chanted, "Pete Forever, Ringo Never!!" and George Harrison obtained a well deserved black eye (evident in the photos of the first EMI recording session) for his roll in the sacking.

@WisMiss101 In actual fact, Richard Starkey was considering a emigration to Texas, USA due to his passion for country western music. He was/is a country western style drummer. Pete Best is/was firmly stuck in the backbeat style of the 1950's. Ringo's c/w beat added to the Hamburg honed Merseybeat of the Beatles is what created to finalized the sound that the world came to know.
NO RINGO NO BEATLES...

Actually, it's his half brother. Roag's biological father is the late Neil Aspinal, the Beatles' road manager and later the head honcho at Apple.
