Four friends are on a mission for gold. Meet the Eight End Curling Team. The dream started a few yeas back when Brett Gleeson saw curling on tv. "I saw some people about my age and I thought I think I can do that. Wouldn't it be cool if I could go to the Olympics in a sport like that." says Brett.
After some practicing the team thought they had what it took and headed to Mankato, Minnesota to test their mettle. It wasn't pretty. "The total score was several hundred points to, I think we scored 5." explains Brett. Disappointed but not defeated the boys recruited 1983 National Champ Jerry Van Brunt. "In 1983 I was on the US Men's National Team. We competed at the World Championships in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada." explains Jerry.
Early losses have given Eight End a new outlook on the sport. "It's going to take a little more effort than thinking you could just go step out on the ice and compete with champions. It takes dedication like anything else." says Brett. But when it's all said and done it's still just bunch of buddies having a good time. "(We do it) for the fun of it! It's a game that can be played from 8 to 80!" says Jerry with a laugh. "If you think you can do it get off the couch and come on out." says Brett, "We'll throw some stones and we'll drink a beer later!"
