Hennessy Typhoon - Warbonnet Blackbird 1.0 double layer

sunshine - with the raintest looking so dark and not showing off the blackbird 1.0 dl, I thought maybe one with some light on the subjects might be next. For backpacking and under 6 ft, 200 lbs (warbonnet rates it to 260 lbs), I think the Blackbird 1.0 dl is ideal as a great light weight alternative at 130.00.

As a survival hammock, it falls shorts in a few areas. But it's fun sayin "warbonnet blackbird footbox" and is one of the top rated backpacking hammocks out there.

My best nights have still been in my Claytor Jungle Hammock for comfort, but that's my personal choice. You have to make a check list of what you want in a hammock and as unfortunate as it may be, you need to try a few different types to find what's right for "you". Best survival design, DD travel hammocks.. oh wait, that Ajilis is a nice lighter design once modded.. but then the claytor covers best comfort and most survival..oh heck.. see... So many hammocks, so little time.

You have a few choices of tarps with doors these days, at 80 bucks for polyester or 120 for silnylon and with the quality and innovations Hennessy is known for, Thumbs up..cannot see how a Typhoon or Monsoon would not be a good buy! The Hennessy snakeskins work fine over this rainfly with doors still attached.

UPDATE 5/27/11: Looks like the BlackBird 1.0 DL has been discontinued. Making the 1.1DL your next choice in this weight size. At 175.00, Made in USA.

  • how tall are you? I watched both your vids on 1.7 and 1.0 now. Im trying to decide what to get.

  • @john22112 Thanks for watching, I am around 5' 8" and 190 pounds.. the 1.0 has been discontinued so you would have to choose between the 1.7 and 1.1 double layers now. Both same price. the 1.1dl would be like the 1.0dl and my choice for under 6 ft 2 in and 250 pounds.. I think it is rated to 275 pounds.. good luck to ya and happy swinging..

  • @Justaguyinnc ah ok. I was originally looking at getting the 1.7 as thought 'it must be made more durable & have more space inside than the 1.1. Are these the same dimensions in length? I'll be using an exped downmat 7 inside the double layer. What are the main reasons you preferred the 1.1 over the 1.7? Im also wondering now, whether the 1.7 will fit inside the Typoon. Im about 6' 200lbs.

  • @john22112 From what i can find on the site and from remembering the 1.7Dl which i no longer own, they are about the same size. but, the 1.7DL more or less swallowed me and was less flexable? for lack of a better word. The 1.0DL just feels right and allowed me to adjust better and see out the sides, which also added to ventilation I lacked in the 1.7dl for some reason. strange how material can make such a difference. Good Luck with your decision.

  • in "MY" opinion, the 1.7 is for large people over 275 pounds to 400 pounds. They can make the fabric stretch. Us small feller's under 250 will most likely find a better sweet spot in the 1.1DL rated to 275. That has been my experience at least and i "personally" hated the 1.7dl and 'personally" enjoy the 1.0dl I now have.

  • 6 ft 350 I currently don't trust any hammocks perhaps if I drop a hundred pounds.

  • @cdltpx The warboonnet 1.7 double layer will goto 400 lbs. There are some big boys using it with smiles. I have a review up on it if you care to look. For "me" (under 6 foot and under 200) it was WAY to big...for you, it might be perfect! Also, the claytor jungle hammock goes to 350 pounds and my personal favorite for comfort.

  • @Justaguyinnc Thanks - yep suppose person of my height/ weight would be better for 1.1D - BB must have some comfort reasoning around the design compared to 1.7.

  • I appreciate you taking the time to make and edit this video for us! Good review, and I'm sure the guys who make this hammock always like feedback from their customers.

  • @briargoatkilla thanks for viewing.. I think anyone would be happy with the setup for camping and backpacking.. long as they stay within that weight limit and add a bottom insulation, should be good to go for 3 seasons.
