Aug 23 2007 In BC Supreme Court, Justice Butler announced, (without inspecting all of the evidence - this is for the Appeal case Judge),
the decision of staying (setting aside) mostly every part of the Stop Work Order issued by the Sunshine Coast Regional District, Board of Health to Western Forest Products.
This includes #7 of the Order regarding strict water monitoring during the forest activities! As far as #6 Riparian Areas, why did WFP hire a consulting co. to engineer environmental Bridges to protect one stream - but yet feels it is ok to fell trees into the others?
The only preserving part of the Order which was upheld, is the cut blocks on the steep slopes where over 1/3 of the trees have already been felled and others are prepared for removal.
Western Forest Products has no responsibility to the watershed , as they were issued the license to harvest these trees on steep slopes by the Province.
The official Appeal date is Sept 10, which by then every other cut block mentioned in the Order (Old Growth) may also be felled, and prudent avoidance to protect the integrity of this watershed and public safety will be moot. Western Forest Products spokesperson announced that Forestry practices in the watershed are Safe, Citizens are calling this Eco-Terrorism by WFP and the Province of BC.
Good work Dan!
