A terrible version! Huge enormous aggressive black mass with stupid erotic allusions and very unprofessional movements... Have a look how it could be excellently staged with Obraztsova in Scala

FAT, OLD AND UGLY PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE ON THE STAGE! THEY CAN SING CONCERTS AND RECITALS. BUT NO OPERA!!! OPERA SHOULD HAVE THE SAME CRITERIA AS MUSICAL - IT IS WELL KNOWN THAT MARIA CALLAS, GREAT VOICE AND A VERY INTELLIGENT WOMAN, UNDERSTOOD THAT, AND AFTER A DIET, HAD A BODY AS A MODEL. AND SHE WAS BELIEVABLE IN ANYTHING SHE PLAYED. NO COMMENTS ABOUT THE OLD, OUT OF SHAPE AND VOICE, CHORUS SINGERS.

that's what I'm sayin. this is a true soprano voice, not a dramatic mezzo with an extension like the type that is meant to sing eboli. not that im complaining tho. not every role a diva sings will be right for her vocal timbre

About the only happy moment in at least the 4 act version of this opera and they stage it like they're in mourning in a mausoleum. This is not where it takes place in the original stage directions for the score!!!

Ugly, horrid production. What is with the female chorus imitating castanets? If you're going to stage this scene in a mausoleum, go all the way, dammit.
