The legendary Spanish mezzo-soprano Conchita Supervia (1895-1936) in an old English song "Oh no, John" (arranged by Cecil Sharp). The recording was made for English Parlophone in March 1932, with Ivor Newton accompanying on the piano.
This singer also made a beautiful recording of another song in English, John Alden Carpenter's 'When I bring to you coloured toys', perhaps about the same time as this one.
I remember hearing this performance by Supervia many years ago on a Rococo LP. I loved it then and still do! Robeson also recorded the song in a live recital. Thanks, Tim, for sharing!

Delightful. The vibrato didn't bother me at all.

Delicious. I wonder who coached her on her English as her accent is very good.
