Short selection of lifeguard clips. Like our lifeboat crews, lifeguards save lives in dramatic rescues, but much of their vital work is done by preventing accidents in the first place. RNLI lifeguards patrol more than 100 beaches in the UK in peak season and assisted almost 10,000 people last year.

  • are your lifeguards trained by the RLSS UK or do you train your own lifeguards?

  • @thewastedguitarist

Hi & thanks for your question. I'll answer it in 2 posts as the character count is so restricted! Before becoming an RNLI lifeguard, applicants must have a basic beach lifeguard qualification. RLSS UK are one of the providers of this training, and the RNLI also recognises qualifications from other training providers around the world, which are recognised and accredited by the International Life Saving Federation.

  • @thewastedguitarist Once recruited, RNLI lifeguards receive intensive RNLI training, which covers RNLI-specific topics, local knoweldge and practical scenarios, as well as casualty care and training for equipment (depending on the set up at the beach). All in all, it means our lifeguards are trained and assessed to the highest possible standards.

  • @officialrnli thanks for answering!!! im a surf lifeguard in Syndey Australia but i grew up in ireland, and was trained by the RLSS UK. i've always been interested in affairs with lifesaving in northern Europe and my brother is a rnli lifeguard in england, but he never tells me about his experences or if he needed extra training!!!

again thanks and and huge respect for the huge numbers of lifes you help save each year!

  • lifeguarding on that beach i can tell you its an arancia 388 with a mariner 30hp engine

  • who is the music by, i have heard it before, but i never bothered to check information on it

  • speaking as a RNLI crew man.. the ILB's with 50hp mariners and the old D-CLASS with 40hp's..through my experience over the years of helming both boats 22knts was the best speed reached from the ILB in good weather conditions..

  • speaking as a RNLI crewman the ilb's ive helmed over the years have only reached 22knots...

  • @JasonCrossie Mariner 22kW 30 hp, 22 knots - not sure about the exact model. If you're talking about the RNLI inshore lifeboat at 2:26, its a 50hp outboard, 25 knots. All of these outboards are inversion proofed by the RNLI.
