Kind of weak plot point from the main character on the original intentions from the main character on how this company should use the time machine. Help the environment? Stop worldwide violence? It will take more than a time machine to change those. Plus, Nick is kinda of a cliche of the ignorant "good guy" main character to want only those things from the use of his invention and to expect others to agree with him. Why are we not surprised when things go wrong later?
