*EN: From November 25 to 29, 2011, Marcel, Nick, Marjolein and Lieke, all from the Netherlands, were five days in the Pacaya Samira National Reserve located south of Iquitos. Even though we had rainfalls during all the expedition, we know it is part of the life and experience in the Amazon. Marcel and Nick helped to build 4 personal flotation devices for the entire group using materials from the jungle in order to go downstream the river Pucate and fish piranhas. Some of the animals sighted were: The Yellow-spotted Amazon River Turtle or taricayas (Podocnemis unifilis), Schneider's smooth-fronted caiman (Paleosuchus trigonatus), the venomous jergón snake (Bothrops atrox) and many species of frogs (Anura). Also primates were observed as the night monkey locally called musmuqui (Aotus nancymae), white-fronted capuchin (Cebus albifrons), the howler monkey (Alouatta seniculus), the pichico or brown-mantled tamarin (Saguinus fuscicollis). We saw many species of birds too, as the hoatzin (Opisthocomus hoazin), blue-and-yellow macaws (Ara ararauna) and herons. Some insects we saw are the pinktoe tarantula (Avicularia avicularia), thick-tailed scorpion (Tityus silvestris), morpho butterfly (Morpho menelaus) and species of ants. Finally, we saw pink Amazon dolphins (Inia geoffrensis) or bufeos as Peruvians call them.
