As you journey up the Snake River you will find that Hells Canyon is much the same as it was when Lewis and Clark made their way 100 miles up river on the Snake in 1806. A member of the expedition wrote that the rapids were about 150 yards wide, that its perpendicular rocks rise to a great height, and that its hills are "mountain high".

Few places today retain the look and flavor of the past as much as Hells Canyon. There are numerous wildlife that have made Hells Canyon their home. Among those creatures seen regularly by jet boat visitors are bighorn sheep, wild turkeys, elk, mule deer, bobcat, cougar, river otters and eagles.
