Wow my mom has been looking for this for years. Her mom used to sing it to her and she sang it to me and we've passed it on to my nieces. We sing it in a completely different tune and our words are slightly different.

I love this song too! My granny would sing this to me as a little girl with slightly different lyrics- still makes me cry every time! Dolly Parton (who is also amazing) did not actually write this song; it's an old folk ballad. This song has been passed down in my family through many generations of
