China banned boxing in 1958 after a death in the ring - and that ban stayed in place for 40 years. But as the Beijing Olympics demonstrated, the Chinese are making a strong comeback - picking up two gold medals in August 2008.
Boxing is still an amateur sport in China - but riding a wave of Olympics enthusiasm, the sport could be poised to turn pro. And who else to advise the Communist Party's sports officals about putting on a revenue spinning show, than the World Boxing Council and a certain legendary, some might say, boxing elder statesman.
