Any M1 tankers out there can help me with this question: What are the destructive effects of a M829 on a T-72 without any ammo or fuel contained inside?
I heard it can get up to 8000 degrees inside the hull with massive spall and shrapnel.

@Qwerty48121 Actually it hits the ammunition in the back of the turret, and blows it up. Sometimes it happens just after it has got through one of the crew member sitting in the turret. (like a big arrow wih 3000 km/h speed).

yeah exactly someone please how does a sabot round kill everybody inside... well mostly everybody... does it just splinter A LOT and kill people with shrapnel?
-
"gunner sabot, target 250m" "target acquired" "FIRE"
-
@boobtuber06 it does have massive effects on the target but doesn't reach temreatures up to 8000 degress or spalls much shrapnel all it does is enough to penetrate the armor/disable the tank and kill the guys inside
-
It pokes holes in the T-72 a majority of the time. Of course most anything that penetrates the crew compartment will generate shrapnel and be hot. The tungsten penetrator would melt at 6192F so it it doesn't get to close to 8000F. Maybe someone was describing the M830 to you...

@boobtuber06 2000 degrees hotter than the surface of the sun?.. I doubt it.

@boobtuber06 The way it was described to me, though i dont know how true it is, was that when the round hits it turns the armor of the target molten along with the outer layer of the APFSDS. As it penetrates the molten armor plus DU become liquid flachettes which spray the inside of the vehicle like a shotgun blast as well as creating a poisonous gas. The flachettes shred electronics/ppl alike. The rest of the round continues on and punches through the other side which creates a suction affect..

The only aurmor type that is effectie against the sabot is composite aurmor, especially Chobbahm Armour
