Together, a Family Chp. 9

Nick never tried to appraoch me. He probably thought I needed some space. That was sort of true.

Right when I was about to fully trust them...they ruined it. I was shaking as I changed into my pj's and crawled under my covers. I clutched onto a teddy bear Miley had given me, and curled up into a ball.

They didn't listen to me, they didn't believe me. Sure I have an attitude, which they have all fully been given, but I haven't done anything to Sarah! Tears were streaming down my face as my eye lids drooped and I went into a very uneasy sleep.

I had a nightmare, which was fueled by what happened earlier. I was trying to get away from Kevin, as he chased me with his belt in hand. I had seen him taking it off the other day when Joe cussed after dropping a weight on his foot.

He was screaming for me to stop running, but I didn't listen. I screamed as a hand clamped down on my arm. They threw me to they ground. I looked up into the eyes of Mr. Nason. He smiled evily at me, and his hands trailed down my body to the button of my jeans.

Some one was rubbing my back softly. I blinked my eyes open.

"Wake up Che che," Nick whispered.

I rolled over as fast as I could away from him. My back slammed against the wall, and I looked up at Nick in complete fear. A look of shock was on his face.

"Michelle?" he asked, reaching a hand out towards me. I flinched away, whimpering silently. He drew his hand back immediately, and turned his face away. "B-Breakfast is ready."

That's all he said before he leaned against his crutches and exited the room. I didn't leave my spot for a second, but when I did, I wasn't headed toward my door. I walked into my bathroom and started a bath.

When the tub was filled, I turned off the water and climbed in. I leaned my head back and sighed. I refused to close my eyes, for fear of one of them coming in. I stayed in for a long time, just sitting there.

I got out maybe thirty minutes later. I got dressed in some sweatpants and a t-shirt. I crawled up onto my bed and picked up one of the many books Nick had taken me to buy that first day. It was Harry Potter and the Soceror's Stone. I opened it, then devoted my attention to it completely.

I absolutely love reading. I love the ways authors can transport you into a whole different word with words. The detail and scenes they paint in your mind make you feel as if you're in the story itself.

I had been reading for about two hours, and was on chapter fifteen, when there was a knock on my door

~Nick's P.O.V.

I exited Michelle's room with tears in my eyes. She was scared again, and she wasn't talking. She hasn't acted that way toward me since that first day when we first got her. Having her back this way hurt...a lot.

I made my way down stairs, and plopped down in my seat at the table.

"Where's Michelle?" Joe asked. I pushed my plate of food away and laid my forehead on the cool surface of the table.

"In her room. She's terrified again, and she won't talk," I said, staring at my lap.

"It's my fault," Kevin said miserably. I sighed.

"No it's not Kev. She did something to warrant a spanking, and you punished her. We've told her countless times that she will be spanked if she misbehaves," Joe said.

I pulled out my phone and dialed Selena's number.

"Hello?" Selena's beautiful voice asked.

"Sel?"

"Nick, what's wrong?" she asked.

"It's Michelle..."
