This breaks my heart, I met Phil in Detroit back in the early 70's. What an icon -- it was too much for him. Unfortunately, he entered the scene before "anti-depressant" drugs were acceptable.

According to one biographer, Ochs sang this song to Bobby Kennedy in the mid-60s. RFK was quite moved as the song is clearly partly about JFK. And eventually of course it can be sung about RFK as well. And no, Dylan never wrote a song as good as this one.

Phil Ochs was outraged that they would take a hero like Jesus and use his death to obliterate people so they could then replace their worldview with one more compliant with their ambitions.
