"Backtrack": Amtrak SILVER STAR in Tampa

Watch Amtrak's SILVER STAR reverse its way through Tampa's Ybor City Historic District. Trains back into stub-end Tampa Union Station and here we see a conductor at the end of a sleeper car leading the way with a high-pitched whistle. Most footage was shot April 25 & 26, 2009, so this features the new consist which recently became standard on the Silver Service trains as well as the CRESCENT, which places the coach cars near the engines and the sleepers at the tail. Aerial and ground-level video is featured and captures the downtown Tampa skyline, as well as the rooftops of Ybor, Centro Ybor, and Ybor Square. Shots of Tampa Union Station also appear as the southbound #91 and northbound #92 back their respective cars down the Tampa tracks passing railroad crossing gates and "No Trespassing" signs from CSX. Eventually we see the train depart Tampa, "backtracking" the same route it came in on from Lakeland, back through Lakeland again though now with engines first.

The STAR backs across another rail line just outside the Tampa station yard. The track belongs to the TECO Electric Streetcar Line, and we see Birney replica standard car #428 make its way through the rail junction.

Did Amtrak ever run to Bradenton and Sarasota ?

@Wehategod Both Sarasota and Bradenton were served by the ACL and SCL prior to Amtrak's existence. As far as I know, rail service ended in 1971. Amtrak offers Thruway motorcoach service, but no rail service.

Rode the Silver Star To Kissemee in Oct '10. Sleepers were right behind baggage car. Love the train BUT could not sleep.

Weird. The Star is now assigned 2 sleepers, while the Meteor gets 3. There's also somewhat of a shortage now that the LSL has a Boston sleeper.
