This weeks All in the Detail starts a Two Part Series entitled Choosing Paint Colors like a Professional. I am going to share some hints to help you understand color in your home. Painting interior spaces can seem intimidating, especially when it comes to choosing the color. How will the colors for one room relate to other rooms? What colors look good together? What colors do you want to use? Well, don't worry: Once you start to grasp the basic principles, you'll be choosing colors like a professional.

  • Here's how:

Look for a wall with a focal point: fireplace wall, wall where the bed goes, wall at the end of a hallway or in a formal entry with a furniture arrangement.

Look for a wall within eyesight when in an adjacent room, color will perform double duty if you see it from other rooms.

Try walking around your house, entering each room with a new set of eyes.

    Which wall is the anchor?

Which wall do you see first?

Which wall do you see from other rooms?

    Thanks and Good Luck!

  • Do you know what color green is on the wall at recording 1:24? I love that shade

  • If anyone paints their room in a tan neutral color, DO NOT use Valspar's "Kahki"...My living/dining room was painted by the landlord who loves this color and swears by it. I simply swear. It looks like you live in the government projects and not a good job on a painting project. Please do NOT get "Haaaaahki" It's awful. But if anyone has a nice neutral toned paint color they used...please please please advise! Thank you, HouseDrs for posting this also.

  • Why is that lame roll of wallpaper in this video, I haven't used wallpaper in years!
