The process of creating a single, harmonized, 13% sales tax in Ontario has started. The Liberal government introduced a bill on Monday
to merge the provincial sales tax with the GST, starting next July.

The Ontario Government is going to harmonize the federal and provincial sales tax into a single 13% HST (5% GST + 8% PST).
You currently don't pay PST on many items from gasoline to real estate. This will cost us all.

  • dude this is just Ontario, not Canada

just think of that one extra cup of coffee

a week you can buy with the tax savings

meanwhile back on the farm every godam

insurance i pay went up, food up, blood pressure up on and on

  • Actually it is in Ontario and BC, like I mentioned in the info. Just the matter of time before all the provinces are hit with the HST.

  • It's efficient, modern and a lot easier to merge into an American system.. heck, even global for that matter.

I thought they said they were going to do away with the GST.. I guess this is what the meant.. merge it with the provincial sales tax so we all pay a lot more.. these guys are pretty good!

  • I wish the Canadian people would rise up and slap around our political parties for even proposing such a ridiculous bill.

They always distract the people from real issues with garbage like this.

  • Since voting doesn't seem to work, maybe we all need to take a different approach. Maybe it's time to rethink our buying power. Start using public transit, stop buying things we really don't need, etc. Hit the government in the pocketbook and they'll take notice!!!

  • Are we really going to give businesses more money to play with and then expect them to pass it on to consumers? I would be laughing if I wasn't as concerned. The savings are going to be passed on to consumers? What a joke. Companies are simply going to pocket the cash and the people won't see it ever again. If they expect me to think my gym membership will get cheaper after an 8% hike then they clearly think I'm an idiot. I'm so mad about this.

  • IF YOU WANT MORE OF THE SAME THEN KEEP VOTING FOR THE MCGUINTY LIBERALS....

  • They control both sides to eliminate dissent. You carbon lifeforms better get used to your carbon taxes and all you good goyim keep paying your kosher taxes. In Canada our masters from a race chosen by god himself to decide for us, have blessed us with a new harmony tax. May Christ forgive what the leftover christians do to the human parasites when they awaken from their state.

  • Steven Harper and all Liberal goverments, you can take that HST and, well you know the rest.

  • HST is only good IN THEORY, they say it will increase jobs, and wages...well yeah, maybe in a perfect world where companies actually see that they are making more money, and decide to give their employees a break, unfortunately we don't live in this "perfect world" and companies aren't going to just break even, they are going to make a profit, and laugh all the way to the bank.

your average person gets the shaft.

  • WHAT DO YOU THINIK ABOUT YOUR McSQUINTY BUM BUDDY NOW ASSHOLES??

HOW MUCH MONEY DO YOU HAVE LEFT IN YOUR WALLET?????????

  • Voting does work, vote for Hudak in the next election, rather than that moron McGuinty.

  • @mattmatt115 Awesome!!! It all starts with each one of us. If we ALL do something it will make a difference.

  • @777indigo I already did that minus public transit. I have decided i will purchase all goods across the border, im 10 minutes away. I'll fight this HST by not buying anything that carries it! Sorry Canada but you betrayed me at a time when im hurting the most and now you've lost most of the revenue you would have collected from me before this low blow. Good choice, you pushed me over the edge to take action and FIGHT BACK

  • vote that party out NDP!!!
