Friend, your comment seems to imply that you either think death is the end of it all, or that you have a really good perspective on Eternity. I hope it's the latter. Either way, the lyric is "so that I can feel the rain..." and in the context of Dave's song, I believe this lyric is a strong hook and key to the song.

Dave powerfully repeats this lyric in connection with the forenamed deceased to emphasize his understanding of his own mortality. Feeling the rain is a metaphor. Peace.
