Alexander Shabalov (born September 12, 1967) is an American chess grandmaster, the multiple winner of the U.S. Chess Championships; he is the current US Champion. He is of Latvian origin, and like his fellow Latvians Alexei Shirov and Mikhail Tal he is known for courting complications even at the cost of objective soundness. As of the June 2007 rating supplement Shabalov had a United States Chess Federation rating of 2671, ranking him 7th best among American chess players and 81st in the world.
Currently, Alexander Shabalov regularly lectures chess players of all ages at the House of Chess, a store that he runs at the Ross Park Mall in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He has been known to play against anyone who shows up, and to be similarly obliging to autograph-seekers.

  • Everytime he says what colour the player is playing in these videos I laugh at another context. Seriously though, Sergei, put out more chess videos like this. Maybe some of your own games?

  • great job, thanks a lot for these videos!

  • @plo911 jumper=bishop ... sry ... i'm from germany ...

  • Why did white not play the castling???

Wouldnt that "just" be tower/jumper subtitution???

  • yea i got it

  • this time i couldnt see anythin,watching...

  • everytime he said pasue vid i pausenow im thinking .its so nice:)

  • i have learnt a lot from watchin sergei's videos

  • @chorejason This isn't a lecture retard.. the title clearly defines the video as a "Short Chess Game", there is no mention of in-depth analysis or discussion. From all that study I'd assume that you could investigate it all by yourself... am I wrong?

  • @john17972 What does greed have to do with this. If something is wrong, it's wrong. I've been studying chess for 13 years and this is the worst excuse of a "lecture" I have seen in my life.
