Some of the rifles are not disassembled and sent through the untrasonic cleaner. rifles with low serial numbers, collectors, correct rifles are set aside.
There has been some discussion of not running the stocks through the cleaner. One thing we need to understand is that all rifles are checked by the CMP staff and test fired for function.
i was never sure how the dishwasher/de-greaser thing worked and I was never sure if they actually took rifles down and rebuilt them. i wish they would leave rifles in original military configuration.

If you cant see the rifle yourself in person, opt out of getting it from CMP.
With M1s, just suck it up and get a $1K M1 with a good barrel, brand new stock and a custom trigger, you wont regret it.
You also cant get any 1903s (other than A3s) from the CMP these days either...so just keep combing through the auction sites.
I do appreciate CMP's effort in the vintage rifle and pistol field, seeing as how AR15s are taking over the match scenes more and more.
