Border Collie pups, born at the Border Collie Rescue Assessment and Re-habillitation centre near York, going out for one of their many daily walks together. Our own 10+ acres of land is supplemented by several hundred acres of surrounding farmland and farm tracks in remote countryside, allowing plenty of freedom to run and play together.

The Border Collie is designed to be a sheepdog and was originally used for herding livestock in the English and Scottish Borders. Border Collie Rescue assesses all dogs coming into our care for herding ability and will rehome them as stockdogs if that is what they need to do but we also assess and rehome for scent discrimination skills to the Police, Prison Service and Excise to detect drugs, explosives and firearms -- to SARDA and other rescue organisations for mountain rescue and search and rescue work -- to help deaf, blind or otherwise disabled people as well as for working trials, flyball, agility, obedience and other interactive sporting disciplines and many of our dogs have qualified for Crufts in these disciplines. Those that show us they do not need or want to work are rehomed as PAT dogs, pets and companions.

  • Thank God for dog lovers.

  • Yup - and thank god for dogs!

Thanks for your comment and the video response.

  • same here. this must be a bc heaven.

  • It's set up to make it best for the dogs, although not the most convenient way for us to cope.

We have peace, quiet and space which helps the dogs settle and provides opportunities for freedom.

Some dogs wander around freely, and like shown in this video, go for walks off lead and in groups as well as being taken out individually to secure paddocks or for longer walks on the tracks.

    They seem to enjoy it!

  • My idea of heaven. To be in a position to rescue the smartest and most beautiful breed of dog on the planet! How can we help? Thank you for posting this and for making the world a better place for what you do.

  • It rocks and sucks.

It sucks when we have to say no because we are full, innundated, short funded and can only handle so many dogs so have to turn others away.

It rocks when we see dogs that came to us with problems develop and then go on to a new home and realise their potential.

All in all, Heaven outweighs Hell.
