the first verse talk about lynching and religious intolerance, and the second talks about how the speaker doesn't under stand the difference between between colors ("a latent strain of colorblindness").

the chorus is trying to say how, though we may look different, the blood the runs through our veins is all the same, and that's what we should focus on.
