Installing a weldless sight glass kit isn't hard but there are a few important steps that you need to get right. It's much easier for me to show you how than to type up detailed instructions. I also show you how to apply the vinyl calibration numbers to the tube without making a mess.

  • Bobby, Im sure you have answered this. Where do I install if I have a pick up tube in my boil pot?

  • @peligro28

I don't think it matters much because the thermometer probe doesn't stick into the vessel by more than 2". I mean, you'd want it to be offset to the side a bit to stay out of the way of the ball valve handle but other than that, it shouldn't be a problem.

  • Can't you just apply the vinyl as you fill?

  • @aussiebrewerinCO

You can, but its tricky to get everything lined up straight working in an upright position.

  • is it necessary to use a cover on top of the sight glass to stop foreign objects entering your kettle?

  • @livewiremjk

I can't imagine what would enter the 1/4" diameter tubing that wouldn't also make it into the gaping 12" hole in the top of the kettle.

    Fair call.

  • Hi Bobby, didn't find your video tonight on cutting the top off a keg to respond to, But the next step will be adding the attachments so this video is perfect Built a jig similar to yours, with a 2"OD plastic plumbing cap. The 360 hole came out almost perfect. 20-30 degree area was bad but it was my fault not the design Took me about 5 mins to cut while stopping to check my progess because it was outside at night with my car headlights for lighting. All in all worked great! Thanks man. Dan
