Trot Insider has learned that driver Tim Tetrick was involved in an accident during the Saturday morning qualifying session at the Meadowlands.

Tetrick was sitting in fourth aboard two-year-old Unsolved Mystery in the third race for trainer Erv Miller, when stablemate Apple Business (Marcus Miller) fell in front of him and caused an accident that took out all but the first two horses.

"I was following Marcus Miller, right on his helmet," said Tetrick "and that horse either caught a shoe or stepped out of the hobble. I should have run him over but I tried to miss him and go around. Instead, I hooked his wheel and went flying and landed on my head and jammed my shoulder.

"Nothing's broken," continued Tetrick, who had already landed in Canada and will drive tonight at Mohawk Racetrack. "I got the air knocked out of me and it hurt to breathe for a while. I'm stiff. Right now, I have a lost of road rash and tomorrow morning, I won't be able to move, but for now, I'll be able to block it out when I go to the gate tonight."

Daniel Dube was also involved in the spill and while he and Tetrick were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center for evaluation, neither was admitted.

Dube was in the sulky behind Laugh Away, two horses behind Tetrick, when the accident happened.

"I landed on the same shoulder I dislocated in 2001 and I was afraid I did it again," Dube said, "but the x-ray showed nothing. The doctor told me to come back for an MRI in two to three days if it does not improve. My right knee is cut pretty deeply, but it did not need stitches. I'm cleaned up and ready to go."

The other drivers involved in the accident, Ed Lohmeyer and David Miller, sustained minor bruises.

  • poor horses ive never seen anything like this

  • This was a qualifying event, so there was no wagering.

If there was wagering, I would assume this would be a no contest.

  • What did the exacat pay? Did they pay "all" for 3rd??
