Beyond Reality - Top Chef NYC Recap - 1/14/09
Last week Eugene & Melissa were sent home. This week Hung returns to guest judge the quickfire challenge. The chefs must make the most delicious dish they can using pantry items such as canned food & boxed pasta in just 15 minutes. Bottom 3 - Leah, Radhika & Jamie. Top 3 - Hosea, Stefan & Jeff. Stefan wins immunity. Elimination challenge - Back to Basics - Chefs draw knives for teams. They must create a lunch for 16 including dessert based on their protein. Team lamb - Hosea, Leah & Ariane. Team chicken - Jamie, Stefan & Carla. Team pork - Fabio, Radhika & Jeff. Lunch is served at Dan Barber's farm & restaurant Stone Barns. Top team - Jamie, Carla & Stefan - they all win because they worked so well together. Bottom team - Leah, Hosea & Ariane. Ariane is sent home because her butchering skills were so bad. Next week - Restaurant Wars!

  • I felt really bad for Ariane. I know they're judged on just that week - and there's been a few shocking 'pack your knives' over the seasons (Trey from Top Chef Miami for example) and this one was shocking to me. Radika or Leah should have gone in my opinion.

  • I can't believe a team with both Stefan and Jamie on it won. Good for them for putting their issues aside.

While I don't think Ariane was truly the worst this week, if you can't butcher a lamb you probably aren't the true Top Chef.

  • the cast are so itneresting that they dont need to resort to leah hose type storylines. im glad they usually dont do that. the cooking and the pepole stand out on their own and make it great to watch.

  • thats exactly what i thought!!~!

and i hate when they do that like project runway did with that Mrs. Pepper ladyt he first season.

they dont need to do it. its good enough on its own. not fair to ariane,. she is so much beter then leah.

  • "that's messed up" lol

    great videos :)

  • Radika's days are definitely numbered. However, I don't think Top Chef has any desire to break up Leah and Hosea yet.

  • I love your show. I think that Ariane was sabotaged by her own teammates. I think they worked together to make her look bad.

I also think they kept Leah for ratings because of the "thing" she has going on with Hosea. And Radika should have went home because she did nothing but cook corn for 3 hours.

  • I felt bad for Ariane also, I really don't think it was her time to go. I totally thought Leah shoulda gone home.

But I do miss Gail now, this new guy isn't cutting it for me yet. He is to nasty, I watch Hell's Kitchen for nasty I watch Top Chef for constructive notes.
