I had the copper IUD (ParaGard) inserted in February of 2010, and I wanted to do a review/Q&A video to hopefully help women in their decision to choose the copper IUD.

  • I'm happy to see a positive review about Paragard...esp after reading all the horror stories on discussion boards. I have a few questions for you!..did you gain any weight? and did you experience bloating in the first few months of having it? I assumed that since it's hormone free that weight gain wasn't a possibility but then I read where some women said that they did gain weight. This can't happen! Lol i'd love your input :) thanks!

  • @kellll12 Thanks for your comment! No, I didn't gain any weight from it, and never have. As for bloating, I can't remember if I had noticed any when I first got it, but I had just had a baby eight weeks prior, so everything was all pudgy then in the uterine/tummy area, lol. I do notice that in the few days right before my period comes now, I do bloat quite a bit, but I am unsure if that has anything to do with the IUD, or if it's just good old, Aunt Flow. (Love her, huh?) Hope that helps! :)

  • I so agree with you! My Paragard experience has be wonderful and it's sad that IUD's have such a bad rap. BTW, you remind me of Reese Witherspoon, so cute!

  • @Responsiblebeauty Thank you :) I'm glad you are having a good experience with it as well. It has been such an easy and hassle free birth control method and I just wanted to try and let women know that it's not as scary as it sounds. Haha, I get the Reese Witherspoon look-alike comment quite a bit!

  • Thank you for making this video. I got my copper IUD in Dec 2010 and it was videos like this that helped me to get a broader understanding of it. I love this IUD . I try to talk to other young women about planning parenthood responsibly, but Unfortunately, they give an attitude - later they regret it. That is why I applaud you for making this video to talk to women on a much larger scale & hopefully we can have more women making smarter choices about their reproductive health. Cheers to you!

  • @0180cr Thank you for your comment :) Yes, I love this IUD, too. Next month will be my second year with it already and it has proven to definitely be the right choice for me. I, too, believe that many more young women should look into this form of birth control. I have heard many bad things about Mirena, and maybe that is why some women are turned off/scared of ParaGard, but I wanted to make this to help educate and point out the good things about ParaGard. Thanks again for your comment :)

  • i've had my copper iud for about 10 days now,i have a little cramping buts its not that bad, even though i only had it for ten days, lol

  • @25BecBec Oh, that sucks :( I don't personally know anyone who this has happened to, but I have read stories about it on discussion forums and stuff when I was researching whether I wanted to get the copper IUD. I've heard of pregnancy happening with almost every form of birth control there is, so I weighed the options and chose this because it seemed to fit for my life best. So, I'm hoping that 99.4% works realllllllly well for me. Haha.

  • I have a friend who got pregnant off this. Poor girl she was that very small percentage that still fall pregnant
