Great progress is underway at Port MacKenzie on two large construction projects. This one is the bimodal route, where truck and train will travel together until the rail diverges into a 100-car train loop. Up to 1.4 million cubic yards of dirt will be moved and 82.6 acres of land cleared this summer. By season's end that volume of dirt is the equivalent of filling a football field 630 feet deep. The video aims at the road. Contractor Bristol is cutting down a ridge to connect the road to Lu Young Lane. The 1.6 mile road begins at Point MacKenzie Road, joins the rail embankment then diverges toward Lu Young Lane. Excavators, scrapers, dump trucks, and Caterpillars have been at it for long hours this summer, hampered by the rain some. Work is expected to be completed for this phase in September.
