Last week, Indie Music Reviewer got a chance to see one of Atlanta's best new projects called Dark Room at the 529 club in East Atlanta Village. Dark Room is a three-piece electro-alternative-trip-hop-psych-prog-ambient-experimental group. (Yes, its a little hard to classify this group's genre as you will see in the video). Each of the members yields and array of synthesizers, loopers, and instruments in their own section of the stage and uses just about every button, knob, and control throughout the show to create a wall of emotions and sound that may leave you feeling ready to dance, but also a little perplexed. Their songs, usually gradually-building, range in emotions from "refreshing & awakening" to "exciting & arousing". Carefully crafted and beautiful sounding mid-range blasted guitars that were looped help lead the sometimes chopped and mangled melodies while beats & live percussion got everyone in 529 swaying in motion to their pre-arranged and sometimes improvised changes.

After their show, we got a chance to talk with the Graham Yoder, Josh Yoder, and Andreas of Dark Room and learn more about their amazing sound and how they "do it". First question we asked; "Can you describe your genre?" After about ten minutes of re-takes in the footage and trying to classify a few genres, we were sadly unable to identify just a few categories. Our best guess: electronic-awesomeness.

Within the interview, Graham, the primary songwriter, revealed to us that this "project" is still in its infancy (although, you can find FOUR albums on this page: http://jungol.net/dark-room/). Graham & Josh, who also play in the group Jungol (http://www.jungol.net) also hinted to us that the project is a breeding ground for songs that Jungol may possibly use on upcoming albums or shows. So, we can only imagine that if you want the inside scoop on Jungol's next big show-stopping hits, check out a Dark Room show!

If you are looking for new music, please be sure to check out this great group and download their music at the links below. We were very pleased with the show and hope to see more from this great Atlanta group.

UPDATE: 4:15pm EST 9/14/2011
It looks like we have confirmation that one of the tracks in the video will be a Jungol track.

From Graham of Dark Room: " Barcelona is the instrumental track, and Tomb is the track with vocals.. which is actually gonna be a Jungol song.. we were just testing an electronic version out with dark room"

There you have it!
