Here's a massive thunderstorm moving into the region. This was taken from Southwestern Pierrefonds, which is in the West Island of Montreal. We got mostly heavy rains, strong gusts of wind along the gust front, as well as thunder and lightning. I think there was also some localized hail near my region as well, but not directly here.

See my profile for more videos, and don't hesitate to subscribe.:)

And of course, take a look at that sharply defined shelf cloud!

  • Are you sure that was a supercell? Looks like a huge Multicell line t-storm aka Squall line ^^

  • Hi Helba1984,

The storm previously had a history of a persistent mesocyclone before entering my area, as well as producing almost golfball sized hail. Though no signatures of lowering or rotation in this video, I still found it appropriate to classify it as an inherent supercell out of respect with its history. :) It was a part of a squall line, though.

No tornado touchdowns were reported beforehand.

  • That my friend is a great sheld cloud! Great video! At 0:18-0:23, were you playing The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess?

  • Hi grandpokebrospro1,

Thank you for your comments and I'm happy to learn that you loved the video! As for your question, my brother was playing that game in the room next door and the music sort of got in the way with video. However, I later felt that, during the short time period for which it was present, the song well suited the storm entering, especially with the shelf cloud being present. :)

  • Great storm

  • Waw, greate capture, this shelf cloud is absolutely greate and very spectacular. I like the severe weather events.

  • Sweet! Very awesome storm structure!

  • A Southern California dream - never hardly see this in Long Beach, Ca. Very mild weather in precipitation. Pitiful to say the least. Are those tenement buildings across the way there?

  • @Zam1Fear

Indeed, there is no distinctive rotation in association with this storm. However, before the storm arrived on the island of Montreal, it was demonstrating signs of fairly defined funnel cloud formations.

In general, however, this storm produced strong downdrafts (76 km/h gusts), heavy rains and pea-sized hail locally.

    Thanks for watching. :)

  • @Rain1290 No obvious signs of rotation but from around :22 - 37 on the left, there does seem to be a somewhat clockwise rotation but nothing significant. Probably just strong winds.

  • AWESOME FOOTAGE! p.s. when i watched this vid, it was thunderstorming where i live XD

  • Here in southern RI...lotsa wild Tstorms the day before, on 7/23/08....which I've videotaped and ADDED onto YouTube.... and more Tstorms the next day, same as yours on 7/24.... Meanwhile..you got quite a gorgeous shelf-roll cloud and woweee..awesome heavy rains and strong winds.... 3 days later, 7/27/08...lotsa more Tstorms again...also on YouTube...and many during parts of August.

  • i would have crapped my shorts LOL so far montreal has been unlucky this summer with storms like that :(

  • indeed, it reminds of an approaching storm. Check 'Gustav approach' or smth like that. It's the same shape - very low edges and plain gray insides.
