Writer/director Ramin Bahrani (Man Push Cart) joined FilmCatcher at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival to talk about casting his extraordinary child leads, his immersive research process, shooting in "tough" locations, and why his characters are not as "marginalized" as one would think.

  • sucks

  • Ramin reminds me of sean lennon dunno why

  • genius

  • That's interesting. I liked everything he said until that comment, at which point I said "god, he's pretentious." He'd just told an anecdote about wrapping a scene, ready to move on but Ale was still waving in cars in, because he wanted to make $5 more. He himself acknowledged it was Ale, not he, who had trouble distinguishing between acting and reality, and when push came to shove there is, of course, in fact, a distinct need for clear separation between action and cut. The rest is posturing.

  • I love Ramin's comment about "action and cut!" That is so true! Now I wonder how I can incorporate that idea with my kid actors?!
