They were - the battle of königgraz 1866 showed the superiority of it. The prussians had the M41 Zündnadel, the austrians had rifled muskets - it ended up with 6000 dead austrians and only 2000 dead prussians, the prussians could shoot faster and more accurate and won, thanks of that rifle.

Zündnadelgewehr m41 = best rifle in the world until the Spencer showed up. I think a division with those rifles would have beaten a whole army with rifledmuskets.

The prussians must have been pretty badass

Of all the guns in the series, the first one in this episode is the first one I could see my self picking over a modern compound/crossbow
-
was the first gun like the very first bolt action rifle?
-
After what I have read, the first "shotgun" were the blunderbuss with the dutch origin, but the early guns before rifling were invented and the barrel were smoothbore like hand cannons, arquebus, and muskets they could shoot with shot as well as solid bullets.

When was the first shotgun?
