Using 3ds max and afterburn to make an almost photo realistic nuke. Total time is 30 min. Eventually i will upload the render for people to download if they dont have afterburn or 3ds max.

  • awesome tutorials man! Really good! Just got one question.. what does the "Delete" layer in particle system do?

  • hey friend, thanks for all the comments. The Delete layer gives the particle a life span from which all afterburn particles are related to by default. this allows you to animate particle size, phase, color, density ect in relation to the particle time as opposed to the absolute time. In this tutorial really only the phase was animated but in other afterburn videos i have created its used to show smoke getting larger and eventually dieing out.

  • Ahaa ;D I'll try upload mine.. rendered for 6 hours and realised i had hidden the particles -.- so had to do another fastrender..

  • its all about rendering while you sleep. I am making stock footage for my future movies which i set up at nigh then render while i sleep. Right now im rendering a large scale smoke at 3K resolution, about 6-10 min a frame which should take several days, but its all worth it. Also, when you render make sure you increase the step size in your lights to at least 300 or you may get a flickering effect.

    cheers
