I see a lot of familiar faces in the video. Even though I don't know them personally, I have seen some of them compete before here in Chicago. This was entertaining and Detroit be getting their step on.

There is a large group here in Detroit who believe everything is a competition. We call them the big dogs because they like to put on shows ALL the time. There are a large group of us, on the other hand, who will step according to what it was meant to be...nice and smooth. Don't break a sweat, dance according to the feel of the music, and don't "hippity-hop." That's the class I'm in. What you see above is only how the big dogs do it. Meaning, my dance card is always full and theirs is not!

Don't get it twisted as to what the grab bag was about. There is a segment where ladies are learning to lead to do trios better and lead not only one male, one female or two males. Or for that matter, teach men how to lead. This contest was based on just that, who was the best female lead.

For those of you who keep making the comment that that is how Stepping is done in Detroit..you are partly right! But mostly WRONG! These examples are of what they call their Freestyling! There are people in Detroit who execute the dance the way it was meant to be (SMOOTH) so please don't judge everyone in Detroit based on what you see here!
