****Minimize Video for Better Quality!****
Westbound Amtrak Cascades Train #513 rounds the bend into Edmonds with a huge suprise for me and andrewkim110, who I was railfanning with today. It was a GE P32-8 (8-32BWH) #505 on the lead! We were very excited to get this catch. It was a sign of good luck for the day, because we saw many trains today. I apologize for the skip in the video. It was due to me editing out when I nearly knocked my camera over, and had to set it back up quickly. Note the little conversation over the scanner. Here is what they said as Amtrak departs:
Dispatcher: Amtrak 516 ready to highball Edmonds, uh delay in block.
Train: Roger, Amtrak 513, Ok to depart Edmonds, delay in block.
Dispatcher: What did I say?
Dispatcher: I'll get the number right one of these days.
Funny convo. :)

  • That sonds like the conductor screwing up not the dispatcher because the dispatchers radio wouldnt make the squwak at the end but the portble radio will.

  • Ah. I see. Good to know. Thanks for your comment, and that information. :)

  • Conductor highballs the engineer when it's time to depart... DS only gives them the lineup and handles any situation which the crew can't resolve themselves.

  • Ah I see. Thanks for that. And thanks for your comment as well.

  • I agree I love K5LAs too. I wish they would have put K5LAs still on these. But do you like the video? I like seeing those Dash 8s though.

  • Great post. Thanks for posting it.

  • It sounds like a K5L

  • Dayton street?Edmonds,Wa.?

  • What's the 1st car after #513?

  • Why are American trains so freakin' large?? Here in Europe we are into super light trains to minimise weight and maximise fuel efficiency especially on acceleration. This bruiser must guzzle gas.

I know you got equally large freight trains running on the same tracks but with modern in-cab signalling its virtually impossible to have a freight/passenger train collison. Will there be a move to lighter more fuel efficient trains in the future???

  • @CoasterFan2105 wats wrong with 505? lol

  • you have a lot of fun with trains

  • Hybrids are nothing new. New Haven had the FL9 which can switch between diesel and third rail electric. The FL9's are now pushing close to fifty years old...

  • LOL

  • Who said there was any winning? lol! its just fact ahaha i hate 505 :P
