Alicia de Larrocha (1923 - 2009) performs the Allegro de Concierto by Enrique Granados. This performance originally was recorded by Hispavox circa 1961, then distributed in 1974 under the Musical Heritage Society label (MHS 1870).

According to the notes on the reverse side of the LP jacket: "The Allegro de Concierto won a prize in the contest convoked by Tomas Breton in 1904 while managing the Madrid conservatory. It fulfills its mission admirably: brilliance, difficulty, direct appeal, virtuosity, and a colorful nature."

  • @pghagen Yes, I do not believe that there is a more compelling performance of this work that ever has been recorded. Thanks for writing, regards, david (writing from my new channel)

  • And there are still people who say that Alicia was "not much of a technician" . This amazing rendition of the Allegro de Concierto proves the opposite.

  • I don't particularly enjoy this piece, but something about Alicia's magical and masterful touch makes this piece so delightful to listen to!!

  • GREAT performance!

  • @JoFrSc Horowitz never touched the Spanish repertoire, but suppose he did, he could not do better than Alicia! She was the queen of the piano. Her tone, touch and articulation are unsurpassed.

  • I had the distinct priviledge as a very young man to meet and perform with Ms. Delaroccha on the same stage. After she played, there were several teary eyes in the audience. And to this day, it is one of the most beautifu memories in my life. I have rarely felt the soul of such a beautiful human being interjected into a piano and so openly pervasive in any given space. She was truly a beautiful lady and artist.

  • Interpretación genialísima, maravillosa! Qué "fuoco"! Merci!

  • Absolutely beautiful. I also recommend Aldo Ciccolini in a Paris recital (Salle Gaveau) and Antonio Pompa-Baldi here on youtube

  • Ah, ye gods! A towering, monumental performance! Thank you so much for this posting!
