Simple Minds performing an early version of "King is White and in the Crowd" live in Vredenburg 16th June 1982 (and not 'unknown like it states in the video!). This is one of the first live performances of the song.

Check out Charlie with his guitar when Jim sings "Wire them up etc". Shame they dropped that bit! Some lyrics at the end of the song were also dropped "I take no prisoners etc".
The song was inspired by the Sadat assasination. It closed the "New Gold Dream" album in style although the studio arrangement was much different to this.

  • My favourite YouTube version of this excellent song. It moves along and doesn't become self-indulgent. Brilliant. :)

  • @ritchiepeyton There are countless versions of this song. A bit like the song "Room". Thanks.

  • Very sad when you don't get paid for your work...Check out Too Through by Bad Girls and you will discover where 'Promised You ' came from...

  • I first heard this song late last summer along with “This Fear of Gods” and the live version of “Premonition” from Hurrah’s. It was essentially these 3 songs that got me into the Minds. I dismissed them as I grew older and came to associate them with 80s cheese because the only songs I’d ever really heard my parents listening to were from the ‘85 era. It made me realize that a lot of their casual fans probably don’t even know these great tunes exist.

  • I love that there's so many versions of this song and they never get old. I have about 6 different versions on my iPod and they’re all uniquely interesting.
