Expand this text for an explanation. Say you have emptied a kayak and you have to put someone back into it, but they are a bit larger than usual.
Bringing them up the back deck of the kayak is not a good option as the nose will tip up and water will flood into the cockpit over the rear edge.
This method allows the swimmer to cross over the instructors kayak which has pretty good bouyancy in its front end. I have used this method with someone of 20 stone. Adrian here is not in that category, but has had one or two restaurant meals too many.
Note how I help him with the spraydeck - taking the paddles with me so I can make sure they dont float off which can happen at sea in a swell. With me holding the rear on Adrian does the front.
This method also works with normal size people and small kayaks - any situation where flooding of the rear deck would otherwise occur.
Thank you for your teaching.

this technique is how i would always rescue anyone, of any size. climbing up the back deck would only be needed if it was an all in rescue
