A potential worm farmer was asking about how the castings are actually harvested from a worm factory and I thought this might help. It does take some time but your garden will love on you like it never has before. I also have many worms in my raised beds and a wire compost bin. I think they call them Alabama Jumpers because they will leap out of your hand and sometimes they are huge. I didn't buy those so I guess they are really Texas Jumpers. I think healthy soil, rich in organic matter, is the key to answering most gardener's dreams.

  • George, for me yeah, for most people no. I'd rather be brewing beer but worms don't require as much attention to detail. Is it summer in Kansas yet? My potatoes in a trashcan went south, haha. I never report on my failures though. Oh well.

  • Thank you for showing how worm compost is supposed to look. I am starting my bin this week.

  • Hi

Can you tell me the the size of the holes in the trays?

  • I used more wormcastings ALOT this year with each transplant, with seedlings and in my compost tea and it sure made a big difference in my veggie garden!

I don't have a worm bin, I purchase the castings at the moment.

    Maybe someday I'll try it.

  • Thanks ! Getting to see how the worm bin, the trays work, how the worms migrate from one tray to the other, having a good explanation of it all is a big Help ! Much appreciated and best wishes to you !

  • Wow... I raise my hat to ya for the work you do to make the compost 'crumbly'. Never thought of doing that to the compost we get from our little bin, but will try that. I can see how it would make it easier to spread the compost over a garden bed! :)

  • Thanks for showing the how after the fact ...8) ( we never see it..we see only nice black

    fine compost ) Thanks again....8)

  • Can you let it dry out first then break it up with a hammer?

  • Now he tells me not to lick my fingers!!

  • Nice job.
