That would have been terribly heart renching for Clark not being able to go up there to help his girl. It just tears at my heart & brings tears to my eyes just thinking of it. They didn't have the facilities available we do now.
you're kidding me, there was still plane crash debris 53 years later? 22 people in all, 15 servicemen, carole lombard, her mother, 2 civilians, and 3 crew members.
a 1942 'time' article (10 days after the crash) says lombard's husband clark gable tried to scale the mountain but gave up. i guess the roads and stuff wasn't there in '42. it was january and there was snow on the mountain. it says it took 14 hours for crews to get to the crash.
Carols plane left from Indianapolis. While there she visited Nellie Meyer(sp) a palmist at Tuckaway. Nelly told her NOT to get on the plane. All the documentation is still at Tuckaway.
Rest in peace Carole along with the other passengers and crew of that flight, They will always be remembered. It is wierd that I only first heard of Carole Lombard was last year in late 2008 when I watched the tribute of robert stack on the unsolved mysteries ghost collection DVDs. I never knew Robert Stack had a crush on Carole, and was later her friend. I am sure he was shocked and heartbroken to learn of her death.
Lombard1942, I use to work in a casino about 5 maybe 10 miles from Jean NV,(Nevada Landing)I remember stoping at the bar there(pioneer)and the bartender, at the time, telling me theres a white cross that was placed near the crash site. Did you see it.

That was a sad day.
Clark lost Carole, but the world lost a rare beauty.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
