How to lance in monster hunter. I use Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G (also known as Monster Hunter Freedom Unite).

Things covered in this video:-

Attacks:-

Forward thrust - basic attack good for keeping distance between you and the monsters feet - after your 3 hits jump back (or sideways) and repeat -

Upward thrust - another basic attack used to aim at higher up weak points or tall things - both (types of) thrusts can be used in the same combo of 3 hits -

Run - running negates the affects of wind so its useful for (attacking) landing monsters - these are usually straight down the face of landing monsters - but if (the monster) isn't aiming at you or a team mate is (targeting/attacking) the head then (run) sideways for the legs -

Guard - guarding is crucial to survival and is what keeps many lancer alive when others would fall -

Guard and poke - this can keep you damage free but your attacks will be slightly weaker - i recommend this for status attributes due to the constant opportunities to attack - in teams status inflictors arn't the ones who should be doing the most damage - so by guarding and poking your support makes other attacking more affective -

Techniques :-

Headlocking and Winglocking - hit the weak point(s) of a monster and make it flinch easier - of done 100% correctly the monster shouldn't be able to move (this is why its called locking) -

Tripping - if you are allocated to tripping in your team (then you should) only attack the legs - even when the monster falls keep doing damage to the legs as it goes towards the next trip - like many other lance techniques this allows your team to do lots more damage -

Tail cutting - who says greatswords have to cut tails? not me - lancers shouldn't really be allocated to tail duty but it is possible - it can be hard as lancing requires precise accuracy so if possible give this job to someone else -

Specific breaking - due to the lances (long) reach you may be assigned to specific places such as wings or claws - the more you break on a monster the better your reward will be - also broken parts are easier to lock (e.g. headlocking) -

Fun running - useful in very few situations - this techniques is only attacking by running all the way through the monster - when (you are) on a run evading or blocking is next to impossible so if you are fun running... - be committed and on high health -

Tanking - only try this for hard monsters if you have guard up and guard inc etc. - this can be used in the same way as guard and poke - try the two together - this is generally used on slow (and) strong monsters - acting like the monster you are fighting can create your own style for fighting that monster -

  • very good video

  • @reaperseeker thanks i cut of nargas tail :)

  • and as a note: the run is the weakest move, but the end poke where you stop is your strongest move (followed by the O (upward poke). just food for thought.

  • @LordGuttenburg yes, it is a cutting weapon. and actually, its better because of the upswing can grab the higher tails (gravios and the blos')
