@PWhitneyHilton Castrati were a catholic Italian phenomenon, the practice of which was banned in most Lutheran and protestant sects. Bach wouldn't have used a counter-tenor either because the technique was only invented and developed in the twentieth century (even though the french had the similar but not exact haute-contre). He just would have used two boys, one soprano, one alto.

Bravo! I think the only thing missing from this performance is castrati. But one does get a sense of how this might have sounded during Bach's day. Unfortunately the fidelity on utube is lousy. I highly recommend buying this CD to get the full effect.

Eccezionale. Grazie per questa grandiosa esecuzione. Grandioso Bach.

Is there some way to find the entire performance? Any information on where to find a DVD or more clips would be appreciated.

I just don't get the people who didn't like this. It is simply great....
Imagine when Bach wrote this peace of music and that it is still acurate these days

Belgian production. Note the Nederlands subtitles and the French name of the orchestra.

Great, but probably what you would expect from a group limiting themselves to the poor intrumentalists and singers that might have been available in JSB's day. Isn't he worth more than this ??

This is simply the most pure and beautiful way of interpretation. Poor instrumentalists and singers? No, they are absolutely great.
