The latest special video about my woodworking with burls.
In this case, a large Cherry burl the size of a baseball. I cut the burl in half and made each one into a bowl. Two distinct shapes, one more organic and natural, and the other with a more stylized approach.

Let me know which one you like best.

Again these bowls where made without any kind of lathe, but purely with Saburr-Tooth disks, an angle grinder and a detail sander. Each bowl costs about 8+ hours to make.
Finishes used in these projects: Tung oil, Chestnut Lemon oil, gloss oil based polyurethane, Shellac, Boiled linseed oil (BLO) and Rustin Danish oil.

All projects are made at home, in a tiny shed (aka the doghouse..), Groningen, Netherlands.

  • Same wood but they look totally different, Excellent Job Walt!

  • @themattin Thx mate! For the next series of bowls I'll use the Makita chainsaw to speed things up a bit. It's noisy, but it saws like hell. I will post a vid of that soon.

  • Do you just roughly shape it with the grinder and then smooth it out with the smaller detail sander and apply finish? I like the 1st one better

  • @IrishWoodDoctor I shape them with the extra coarse and finest Saburr-tooth disks, next is a soft foam backing pad + normal sandpaper grit 40 (again for the angle grinder) and then sand all the way up to 320, then another set of extra soft foam backed sandpaper up to 1000, then to get rid of the circular scratches re-sand at 500, and again 1000 with the detail sander.

  • What kind of attachment are you using for the angle grinder?

  • Hi. I was watched all of your videos. They are very nice made.

And i have another one question. You always write: "First coat - Danish, Ting Lemon or Linseed oil. And here is the question. And a question invites to here. What will a layer be following?

I think that you make about 3 coats. May be you combine the oil species.

    Or something about?

If not secret, you would not could to share experience.

    Thank You.

  • These bowls look terrific. Great work as always!
