Actually i think the master doesn't love the mistress at all at this moment. he married her to get her money for his career. the master loves Xiu He played by Zhou Xun is because she is too young and he cannot get her love easily. he wants to conquer the woman. many men are like the master who despises what is easily got and wants what doesn't belong to him.

@polarisibility Maybe u r right, it have been many years since I watched this drama. Their odd relationship gave me an impression of love. But I still wonder why  the MASTER would care for XIU HE, a trully earthy countrygirl and a puppet in the Mistress's hand. She couldnt talk sweet, and behave properly in front of guests like his second wife. IS there a slightly love for the master?
