It's well known that cholesterol-friendly, soybean-based food is good for our hearts. But few meat substitutes made from soy are raved about on the Food Network. While the ersatz materials can be made to taste like the real thing, they usually feel a little funny in the mouth.

That could change soon. Fu-Hung Hsieh, a University of Missouri professor of biological engineering and food science at the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, is finishing a project to create a soy product that looks, feels, pulls apart and, most importantly, chews like real chicken.Read more: http://cafnr.missouri.edu/news/stories2010/chews-like-chicken.php

    There's no evidence that soya is harmful for health.

    Maybe problem soy GM with glyphosate.

  • They should make meat-alternatives with other protein sources than soy and wheat. That would be great!

  • The hipster's philosophy of food science: artificial products and food engineering are wrong, wrong, wrong, unless of course it helps make a better soy chicken for me and my vegan girlfriend. Hypocrites.

  • Scary! More and more people are becoming allergic to soy as it is in everything. Take a look at the ingredients in your food products. After thinking for years that I just had sensitive skin I have found out that I'm allergic to soy and many other legumes. It's a huge challenge to find anything without soy. Since I have cut soy out my skin rashes are gone.

  • Can you order this soy chicken from somewhere?
