A tribute was held on 10/19/2011 to honor the passing of 96 year old blues legend David Honeyboy Edwards. The event was held at Buddy Guy's Legends in Chicago.
The house band that evening was the Michael Packer Blues Band, who had backed Honeyboy is his last years at a variety of festivals and clubs, most notably Honeyboy's last stage performance at the Juke Joint Festival in Clarksdale, MS on 4/16/2011.
Performing in the band is Michael Packer, Eddie Jackson, Dave "Snakeman" Runyon, John "JB" Becton and yours truly, Guy Powell.
Honeyboy's guitar playing had certainly changed as the years progressed, but his 1942 Library of Congress recordings are still available on Earwig Music as"Honeyboy Edwards Delta Bluesman", a must have for not only blues lovers but every guitarist and/or fan of modern American music -- because this is one of the finest examples of where American blues, jazz and rock originated.
Also a must have is the Honeyboy Autobiography, "The World Don't Owe Me Nothing". It is an amazing book about an amazing man.
A fund in Honeyboy's honor has been created. Contributions to this fund may be made to
The National Blues Museum and designated to the Honey Boy Edwards Fund for the Blues. c/o

Looks like great fun. As Producer of the new documentary about Honeyboy, I can honestly say that he will be missed.
