Abe lincoln was the 16th president and the bear on the toonie (two dollar coin) is a polar bear

I have a feeling the $10 bill will be removed from circulation in the coming years. The purchases that would cause demand for the $10 is getting less and less. All $10 bills can buy now are a single beer and meals at McDonald's, A&W, or other fast food outlets - which people pay mainly with $20's, only to get 2 $5 bills back in change. It's sad how the $10 bill is seen less and less now, and I bet Sir John A. MacDonald is rolling in his grave right now as I post this.

Back when the one-dollar coin was introduced (1987), the cast was stolen during shipping from Ottawa to the mint in Winnipeg. The coin had the Mounties (RCMP) on the back. Due to the theft, the mint immediately cancelled the Mounties coin and used the back-up coin which had a picture of a loon.
At the time, most Canadians hated the idea of a $1 coin instead of a bill, and someone called the coin as Loonie (to discredit it) but the name stuck and is still used until this very day.
Appreciate your video - too bad you don't know to much Cdn history. Each person or thing on the bills and coin has some historical or cultural significance. On the dime, for example, is the Bluenose, a famous Cdn sailing ship. On the $5 bill is Sir Wilfred Laurier (lor-e-ah), Canada's 7th Prime Minister etc. The back of the quarter is a caribou, not a moose, and the back of the toonie is a polar bear, not a black bear, although Canada has both animal residing somewhere in the country.

Thank you for your comment! :-)
Yeah, that is the main drawback of the american education system, we bearly know the history of our own country, let alone the history of other countries. Other than the penny, nickle, dime and quarter, I had never even seen any Canadian Money before I crossed the boarder, and many people here are in the same boat, so I made the video for them.

Queen Elizabeth is technically Canada's head of state, that's why she's on our money. When you talk about her being on our money she is the Queen of Canada.

haha no problem! This video is really interesting, great comparison! I actually didn't even know American money has colour to it, like the orange ten, I thought all of the bills were green in colour haha. Also on the Canadian quarter it's actually a Caribou, but most Canadians mistake it for a moose as well, and on the dime is the Bluenose, a famous racing schooner from Nova Scotia. Thanks for the video!

The color in the amarican money was added over the last five or six years. Before that, all the bills were green.
The new money still looks odd to me, I miss the old style bills of my youth.
